2007 London Book Fair

ABSOLUTELY BOOKS GOES TO LONDON...

Welcome to one of the world's largest book shopping malls.

This is the great view from the second floor near the ForeWord Collective Stand where our titles were displayed.

The booth was an oasis of calm in a very busy week of book deals, located next to one of the best food venues at the Fair and central to the promenade that attendees had to traverse to get to the other side of the exhibit area.

Our titles wonderfully displayed with covers facing out to catch even the most jaded of agents and editors.

Another version of some of our titles on display.

The Pacific Festival of the Book

Crowds of passionate book lovers and writers stopped to chat over the course of the Festival. The chance to talk about books and publishing for hours at a time is just too tempting~!!

Now that wouldn't be a bit of publishing gossip would it?

We had hoped to take lots of pictures of the Festival and our booth but in the end we were so busy talking to readers and writers that it was over before we knew it.

There is nothing quite as intense and satisfying as two book lovers deep in conversation. Sandra Janssen of Windshift Press and Lynne Van Luven, editor of Nobody's Mother (Touch Wood Editions) sharing ideas.

World Poetry Day - March 21st

To mark this year’s World Poetry Day, UNESCO will pay tribute to Chilean poet and Nobel Literacy Prize winner, Pablo Neruda (1904-1973), the centenary of whose birth is also being celebrated.

My favourite Neruda poem is Tonight I Can Write. This poem was at the heart of the film Il Postino depicting an apocryphal incident in Neruda's life. In this poem he describes the pleasures and torments of erotic love with a sensual precision that is not often found in the works other modern poets.

An excerpt from Tonight I Can Write

Tonight I can write the saddest lines.

Write, for example, 'The night is shattered
and the blue stars shiver in the distance.'

The night wind revolves in the sky and sings.

Tonight I can write the saddest lines.
I loved her, and sometimes she loved me too.

Through nights like this one I held her in my arms.
I kissed her again and again under the endless sky.

Bookseller's Fair

Welcome to the Western Book Reps Association trade fair.

Held from Sunday, February 11th through Tuesday, February 13th at the Laurel Point Inn, Victoria, BC. it was a great opportunity for the Windshift Press Group to share their book list with all of the British Columbia booksellers who attended this event.

We met old friends and made many new ones over the course of the fair.

We were particularly pleased to represent The War at Home by Jack Rasmus, a full scale account of the corporate assault on American working people and Peace Begins With Me by Ted Kuntz, a powerful story of one man's journey through darkness to a life of peace including strategies to help others achieve the same sense of peace.

Attracting considerable interest were the titles from the Center for Socialist History in California and the books of Eliza Hemingway, a writer of international note.

The ever changing display of the Windshift Press Group titles.

We're looking forward to talking further with the many contacts we've made.

See you all at the next one!
